Cynthia Steele is a Professor of Comparative Literature, Cinema and Media at the University of Washington in Seattle since 1986. In addition to literary and film criticism, she has published numerous translations of Latin American fiction and poetry in literary journals, as well as the following books in translation: Inés Arredondo’s Underground Rivers and Other Stories (University of Nebraska Press, 1996), José Emilio Pacheco’s City of Memory and Other Poems (City Lights, 2001, with David Lauer), and María Gudín’s Open Sea (Amazon Crossing, 2018).
